Charges filed in fatal stabbing

A Seymour woman has been charged with second-degree murder following the fatal stabbing of her boyfriend late last week.

Sarah Kijanowski, 25, was arrested at the Champaign home of relatives on Monday afternoon, only hours after a judge ruled that her three children will remain in the temporary custody of the Department and Children and Family Services.

Two arrests made in vandalism cases

Two Mahomet-Seymour High School students have been criminally charged with damaging buses and driver’s education cars belonging to the school district.

Mahomet Police Chief Mike Metzler said his department received a tip that led to the arrests Thursday of Odus Phillips, 17, of the 700 block of Colony Grove, and Austin Gustafson, 17, of the 800 block of Cedar Ridge Court, Mahomet.

No injuries in Friday fire

MAHOMET – Fire inspectors from the Cornbelt fire district are trying to figure out what caused a fire at a house on the west side of Mahomet.

Assistant Chief John Harpst said firefighters were called to the home of Bill and Pam Brewer, 113 County Road 2150 N, at 9:33 a.m. Friday.
