Bulldog softball and boys’ track recently collected all-area selections from the News-Gazette, with eight tabbed for the former and a team-high 14 for the latter, which was the most by far representing any other area team.

After collecting its 12th win in an exciting comeback, Mahomet-Seymour softball stayed there to end the regular season, as silent bats were unable to move the number to a baker’s dozen and give four seniors an exiting home victory.
Mahomet-Seymour softball fell at Bloomington Central Catholic May 10 in a non-league game, falling to 11-18 overall.
BCC 14, Bulldogs 12. After nipping the Saints 4-3 at home in mid-April, the Bulldogs were the ones who got nipped this time around in a wild and woolly night.
Mahomet-Seymour softball settled for sixth place in the Corn Belt Conference tournament May 5, 6 and 7 at Bloomington-Normal and tied for fifth overall, while the junior varsity finished fifth.
PC 9, Bulldogs 1. In their last meeting just days before, the Bulldogs beat Prairie Central 4-2, but it was a different story in the fifth-place game at Champion Fields.
The 2011 Mahomet-Seymour softball edition benefited from its up-and-down past to cover all of the bases for the present and future. The Bulldogs tripled its win column to 15 last year and came within an eyelash of a regional title.
The Mahomet-Seymour Fastpitch Association formed roughly 12 years ago with one team. Now the organization has expanded to include one or more teams at each of the following age groups 10, 12, 14, 16 and 18 under.
