Making a difference: M-S facilities director Truitt helps students, staff

Often performing behind the scenes, Shane Truitt has served as the Mahomet-Seymour school district's facilities director for nearly eight years. He supervises three shifts of 15 custodians for the district and oversees the electrical, mechanical and physical parts of each of the school district's buildings.

Village Christmas draws crowd for Santa, shopping and socializing

The spirit of Christmas is here at last. Mahomet blocked off Main Street last Friday at 5 p.m. to create a weekend of holiday glee.

Hosted by The Mahomet Area Chamber of Commerce, Village Christmas included seasonal festivities from Friday through Sunday.

SEYMOUR — Louise Joanne Connell of rural Seymour died Sunday (Dec. 3, 2017) at Arbor Rose in Monticello, with her family at her side after an eight-year battle with Alzheimer's.


Edwards family children give gifts of time, love

Ella Edwards is 11 years old and in sixth grade.

Her two sisters are both younger.

They have already experienced more of life's hardships in their years than many have to face in their first 20 years.

Collectively, the Mahomet residents have also experienced and shared one of life's most rewarding lessons, one that many haven't achieved well into adulthood, if at all.


The sounds of music paved way into Hall of Fame

Brian Haag's early years with music were ones of frustration.

"I took piano lessons," he said, "but I didn't enjoy it."

When he reached fifth grade, it was time to pick an instrument for band. Haag didn't get his first choice.
