Rising contemporary Christian artist Ellie Holcomb will perform at this year’s Sangamon River Music Festival.
In a press release Monday morning, festival organizers announced that We Are Messengers, originally slated to perform in the festival’s Saturday-morning time slot, will be on tour with Big Daddy Weave and will be unable to perform on August 26 in Mahomet.
Big Daddy Weave, a long-established Christian band, appeared at the Sangamon River Music Festival in 2013. “Festival committee members are excited for the opportunity for We Are Messengers and also excited to announce that Ellie Holcomb will take their place as the Christian band festival headliner for 2017,” organizers said.
Holcomb, a Nashville native, launched her music career as a member of Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors, a band fronted by her husband. Following the birth of their daughter in 2012, Holcomb began a solo career with “As Sure as the Sun.” That album hit the top spot on the iTunes and Amazon Christian music charts and led to Holcomb’s “Best New Artist” win at the Dove Awards in 2014.
In January, she released a second album, “Red Sea Road,” featuring radio single “Find You Here.” She said that the song—and the entire album—were inspired by the search for meaning in her father’s cancer diagnosis.
Holcomb has performed nationwide with top Christian acts like Nicole Nordeman, Amy Grant and Third Day.
