Village gets public works director

The village of Mahomet hired a public works director.

Gary LaForge has worked in civil engineering for 26 years. He received his degree in agricultural science/engineering in 1984. He has worked in Illinois, Arizona, California and Iowa since then, specializing in stormwater management and flood control. He also has experience with municipal policy and process. For the past four years, he has worked in New Holland, Ill., under his own company, LaForge & Associates.

“I look forward to starting the new position and diving into the tasks that are assigned,” LaForge said. It has always been his goal to be a public works director.

Tasks will cover a gamut of areas such as employing existing master plans and implementing new ones to spur on growth.

One upcoming project that LaForge will help implement is the stormwater master plan for the village.

He also wants to evaluate policies that may make tasks more efficient and cover areas that might not have been needed when Mahomet was smaller. LaForge lives with his family in New Holland, but plans to move to Mahomet in his first year on the job.
