M-S girls' swim's season ends at sectional meet

The Mahomet-Seymour girls' swim team competed in the IHSA Centennial Sectional in Champaign last Saturday.

The Bulldogs scored 55 points and placed ninth out of 23 teams that scored points.

Host Centennial won the sectional with a score of 189. Urbana placed second with 179 points, and Champaign Central scored 170 for third place.

For the Bulldogs, the 200-yard freestyle team of senior Rebekah Gonzalez, junior Skye Rogers, sophomore Olivia Ross and freshman Olivia McMurry placed seventh with a time of 1:52.77.

The 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Natalie Heaton, Ross, junior Isabella Davenport and Gonzalez placed 10th with a time of 2:16.45.

The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Heaton, McMurry, Davenport and Gonzalez placed eighth with a time of 4:26.45.

Gonzalez also finished 15th in the 50-yard freestyle at 28.39.

McMurry placed sixth in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.76, and she finished ninth in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:07.28.

Carly Raver and Rachel Wingle placed seventh and eighth, respectively, in the 1-meter dive with scores of 257.55 and 245.65.

Heaton and Kate Raver placed 19th and 22th in the 200-yard freestyle with times of 2:33.24 and 2:37.43, in that order.

Freshman Grace Larson placed 17th in the 200-yard intermediate with a time of 2:55.72, and she placed 22nd in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:22.16.

Senior Anna Shimkus placed 22nd in the 500-yard freestyle in 8:01.19 and freshman Katya Sakhartova followed in 23rd with a time of 8:23.44.

In the 100-yard freestyle, Davenport and Kate Raver placed 22nd and 25th, respectively.

The sectional meet ends the Bulldogs' season.
