"We took on a strong Charleston squad (13-4-2) in what initially was an evenly played defensive battle," Coach Joey Gruner said of the narrow May 3 win. "In the first half each team only managed three shots."
One of those three shots by the Bulldogs, however, became the sole difference. Thirty minutes into the contest, junior forward/midfielder Morgan Paintner finished off a Mahomet shot by sophomore defender/midfielder Lauren Longfellow that was deflected.
Mahomet-Seymour (12-2-1) also honored its three seniors on the night: F/M Sarah Garrow, D/M Ashley Hodge and D/M Amanda Wallace.
Junior varsity won as well 5-1 to remain undefeated at 16-0 heading into Saturday's regular season finale against St. Thomas More at Middletown Field. Freshman M/F Aleyna Brunner, sophomore M/F Natalie Fulk and frosh defender Alexie Wright notched the first-half goals, while frosh M/F Brianna Haney had both in the second half.
