MAHOMET — Village leaders continue to work to encourage residents to support local businesses as the COVID-19 pandemic response curbs the ability of most establishments to continue normal operations.

One of the major movements in this arena, led by the Mahomet Area Chamber of Commerce, is “Takeout, Mahomet,” a drive to spur local citizens to get takeout from Mahomet restaurants.

“Takeout, Mahomet” is focusing on certain eateries on certain days. In coming days, the spotlight is on:

— April 10, Lucky Moon Pies and More

— April 11, Mahomet Family Restaurant

— April 12, Dairy Queen

— April 13, Arby’s

— April 14, It’ll Do

— April 15, Monical’s Pizza

— April 16, Wok

— April 17, Yo-Yo’s

— April 18, Domino’s Pizza

— April 19, Project 47

— April 20, Patricio’s

— April 21, Jimmy John’s

— April 22, Subway on Prairieview Road

In a letter late last month to the public, Sean Widener, Village of Mahomet president, urged area residents to continue to support village commerce.

“Our local businesses need your support more than ever,” Widener wrote. “Please continue to shop local and take advantage of newly implemented curb-side and delivery options at our restaurants.

“Consider donating to the local business relief fund by visiting www. VisitMahomet.com for more details,” he added.

On Tuesday this week, he said, “It’s going as best as we could hope for. Businesses are suffering.”

He praised the chamber’s efforts via the Visit Mahomet website and in other ways.

“Kudos to the chamber for stepping up,” Widener said.

In addition to other efforts, the community site’s backers encourage residents to show Mahomet pride by purchasing a “Mahomet Strong” T-shirt. All proceeds will benefit Visit Mahomet’s COVID-19 relief effort.
