A date has been set for the opening of Mahomet's new drop-off site for yard waste.
It'll be open to Village of Mahomet residents only on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 8 a.m. to noon at the public works facility on Lake of the Woods Road. Residents dropping off brush and limbs will be asked to show a photo ID that includes their address.
Village President Sean Widener said at Tuesday night’s village board meeting that the drop-off would be free to village residents the first season, while staff gauge how much material the site can handle.
The drop-off is anticipated to be available one Saturday per month. Only landscape waste eligible to be picked up under the current program will be accepted.
Plans for the drop-off have been under discussion for several years as a supplement to the existing leaf and limb pick-up program instituted by the village following the burn ban.
Future drop off dates are as follows:
September 19 - 8:00 a.m. - Noon
October 17 - 8:00 a.m.- Noon
November 21 - 8:00 a.m. - Noon
