2019 Rotary essay winners

MAHOMET — Three students have been honored as top writers by the Mahomet Rotary Club.

Winners of this year’s Mahomet Rotary Club Young Writers Essay Contest are: first place, Valentina Covarrubias Zuniga; second, Quentin Torney; and third, Halli Skillings. They received their certificates March 6 at the Waterford at Bridlebrook.

Valentina’s piece is dubbed “The Flaming Rose,” while Quentin wrote “The Time Machine” and Halli penned “The Time My Self-doubt Made Me Miss Out.” All the students are taught by educator Lori Zimmerman at Mahomet-Seymour Junior High.

Patrick Murphy is chairman of the Young Writers Essay Contest for the Mahomet Rotary Club. The organization meets Wednesday mornings at Bridle Brook Adult Living Center at 6:45 a.m.
