MAHOMET — The Village of Mahomet Board of Trustees is scheduled to vote tonight (Tuesday, April 23) on whether to annex multiple subdivisions in a highly anticipated decision in which a "yes" vote is opposed by many residents.

The board meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the Cornbelt Fire Protection District training room, 506 E. Main St., where the village's recent study sessions and meetings have been relocated to accommodate a larger audience than usual due to the annexation issue.

Subdivisions up for annexation include Briarcliff, Summit Ridge and portions of Lakeview. As reported by the Citizen, both Briarcliff and Summit Ridge are “wholly bounded” — surrounded by village land — prompting annexation, while in Lakeview, segments of the proposed annexation tracts are touching village limits on at least one side. Once that occurs, convenants in some of the areas require annexation into the village.

The Citizen will cover the meeting and vote as they happen.
