MAHOMET — The MSHS girls’ soccer team’s nine-game winning streak finally came to an end as a great Stevens Point club won 1-0 in the first game of the Urbana Invitational, but the Bulldogs have still cemented themselves as one of the best teams in the Apollo Conference — and the area.
At 12-1, M-S coach Kelsie Briggs has her team playing at an elite clip.
M-S 10, Charleston 1. The Bulldogs had no mercy April 4 as they scored nine unanswered goals to beat Charleston 10-1 in an Apollo showdown. Cayla Koerner and Brea Benson both notched hat tricks and Koerner added an assist. Senior Maddy Wade chipped in two goals and Lauren Schnepper and Mackenzie Moore each had one.
Keeper Noelle Bailey had a trio of saves.
The junior varsity team won 7-0.
Stevens Point 1, M-S 0. The Bulldogs finally had their winning streak snapped as none of their 11 shots could find the back of the net. Bailey had three saves in the loss in the first game at the Urbana Invitational.
M-S 2, St. Thomas More 1. Koerner and Moore both notched goals to help M-S jump out to a 2-0 lead and the Bulldogs held off STM on Saturday.
M-S 2, Marshfield 0. M-S capped off a strong showing at the Urbana Invitational with a tight victory over Marshfield. Bailey and the Bulldogs’ defense shut out Marshfield, and Bailey had three saves. Wade and Nyah Biegler both scored goals. Buzicky added an assist.
M-S 10, Lincoln 0. Wade got in on the fun with a hat trick as M-S destroyed Lincoln. Biegler and Lauren Schnepper both knocked in two goals and Biegler added one assist. Brea Benson, Jade Harms and Koerner all had one goal. Haley Lester dished out three assists. Kelsey Jacobs, Brooke Benson and Grace Larson tallied one assist each.
M-S’ junior varsity squad completed the sweep with a 5-0 victory.
