MAHOMET — James Heinold has the Mahomet-Seymour Junior High wrestling squad humming. The Bulldogs finished first out of 16 teams at the Bulldog Invite on Saturday.

“We won by over 20 points to bring home the championship,” Heinold said. “This was the first tournament we won this year. We had 11 of 16 wrestlers place in the tournament.”

M-S had two first-place finishers. Tallan Pawlak dominated at 95 pounds. Peyton Cox earned the title among the 112-pounders.

Deandre Huighey was the runner-up at 135, while Camden Heinold (85 pounds) and Jayvon Irwin (126 pounds) both placed third.

Justus Vrona took fourth amongst the 75-pounders. Lucas Altstetter, Luke Johnson and Colton McClure were all fifth-place finishers.

Gage Decker and Collin Woodward both placed sixth.

M-S 67, GCMS 25

Gibson City was no match for the Bulldogs last Wednesday, Feb. 5. Heinold, Pawlak, Cox, Irwin, Hughey, Hayden Hart and Wyatt Youngblood all had pins.

Izzy Leyhe was a major decision winner. Gage Decker won via decision. McClure, Vrona and Altstetter won by forfeit.
