MAHOMET — Eight in a row. Stan Bergman’s Mahomet-Seymour volleyball team is on a roll. M-S won all four matches at the Riverton Fall Classic and didn’t lose one set.

They defeated Marquette’s junior varsity squad 25-11, 25-11. Haylie Orton had nine kills. Ainsley Ranstead and Lauren Minick added seven kills. Kayin Garner had 22 assists.

In the second match against Lewistown, M-S still cruised to a 25-18, 25-14 victory. Ranstead and Minick combined for 22 kills in a dominant showing. Ranstead also had three blocks. Garner had 22 assists and six digs.

The Bulldogs defeated Lincoln in game three with a 25-14, 25-12 sweep. Ranstead was a stud again with 10 kills. Amber Yeakel added six kills too. Minick chipped in eight digs and Hess added seven digs.

In the championship game, M-S defeated Auburn 25-18, 25-23.

M-S 2, Mount Zion 0. Minick did a little bit of everything in the Bulldogs’ 25-15, 25-22 sweep of Mount Zion. The M-S senior had eight digs, five kills and two blocks. Garner had 17 assists and two aces. Yeakel had two kills and four massive blocks.

The junior varsity won the first set 25-15, but Mount Zion bounced back and dominated the final two sets 25-10, 15-7. The M-S freshmen also lost in three sets.

The Bulldogs improved to 21-6 overall and 7-2 in the Apollo.

M-S 2, Mattoon 0. The Bulldogs cruised past Mattoon 25-19, 25-21 last Thursday. Hess had a team-high eight kills and eight digs. Yeakel and Ranstead both had four kills. Orton, Rosenbery and Minick all had three kills as M-S featured a well-rounded attack. But the defense played well too. Yeakel, Ranstead and Orton all had two blocks. Garner dished out 21 assists.

The junior varsity Bulldogs won 25-16, 25-23. The freshmen also won in straight sets with a 23-21, 21-13 victory.
