MAHOMET — The Mahomet-Seymour wrestling team earned some preseason love from The Illinois Best Weekly. The Bulldogs were ranked 25th in the preseason Class 2A state poll last week.

Senior Seth Buchanan was ranked fifth in the state after his monster season one year ago. Buchanan led the team in wins (34) and was the team MVP. The 285-pounder will have a great chance to make a run to state.

Chance Decker, Daniel Renshaw and Gage Granadino were all honorable mention. Decker, Granadino and Renshaw all had strong seasons last year.

Granadino won 31 duals and was second-team All-Apollo. He took second place in the regionals. Renshaw was the Bulldogs’ most improved player last year, and he won a regional title.

Decker was also a regional champion last year and was a big reason why M-S brought home their fifth regional crown in a row.

The Bulldogs will begin their season Saturday at the Hinsdale South Matozzi Invitational.

Other wrestlers who will be in line for big seasons are Payton Ramona, Noah Schnepper, Logan Petro, Hayden Nelson, Peyton Myers and Braeden Heinold. Plus, a very talented, 14-man freshman class will be licking their chops to earn some playing time.
